Audience
The Vampire Pathfinder is intended for the teens of the Greenwood Public Library.
Purpose
Vampire fiction has increased in popularity in recent years. How do we capture the excitement and get teens to continue reading and exploring their interests? This can be done by providing them with information and keep them stimulated with a variety of information.
Criteria for Selection
This was difficult. Of course, a list of fiction books are essential for a teen whose interest was first sparked by reading a young adult fiction book. However, a selection of non-fiction books are desirable to provide teens with a place to stretch their knowledge. This was more difficult. There are many innappropriate and scary websites that could confuse youth if they are not digesting the material with a responsible adult to help filter some of the content and explain any questions that the teen might have. While there are not a large number of pathfinders on vampires, there are some webquests. By scouring and evaluating each of these sources I was able to focus on historical accounts of vampires and myths and legends. In this manner I was able to stay away from cult sites and places that might lure teens into participating in online chats with people who believe they really are vampires.
